Who We Are

Go therefore and make disciples...

Who We Are

Central Baptist Church exists to deliver the heart of Christ to the heart of the city.

Our Values

People coming to CBC will encounter the atmosphere shaped by our values before they hear the values themselves. Ideally, values define the experience for an attender before they are a conscious thought.

  • Compassionate Love (1 John 3:18) – We embody the heart of Christ by responding to others with empathy, generosity, and mercy. Compassionate love moves us beyond sympathy into action, seeking the good of our neighbors — especially those who are overlooked, hurting, or different from us.
  • Christ-Centered Living (Colossians 2:6) – We order our lives around the person and teachings of Jesus Christ. Christ-centered living shapes our decisions, priorities, and practices so that our individual and shared life reflects His character, mission, and obedience to the Father.
  • Connected Community (Acts 2:42) – We commit to life together as the body of Christ, marked by unity, humility, and mutual care. A connected community recognizes that spiritual growth and faithful witness happen best when believers are known, supported, and accountable to one another. A connected community inside of CBC lives in the larger community of the Upper West Side with commitment and integrity.
  • Committed Catalyst (Hebrews 10:24) – We actively participate in God’s work by using our gifts, time, and resources to initiate Gospel-centered change. As committed catalysts, we do not wait passively but faithfully step forward to advance God’s mission in the church and the city.

The Mission

The mission of Central Baptist Church of NYC is the same mission Jesus gave his followers: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Our Values

L4 reflects the convictions and passion of CBC. The grounding principle of this vision is stated in Colossians 1:28-29, “He is the one we proclaim, admonishing and teaching everyone with all wisdom, so that we may present everyone fully mature in Christ. To this end I strenuously contend with all the energy Christ so powerfully works in me.”

  • Loving sacrificially (Phil 2:3-4) requires that we are always working towards the benefit of others. Sometimes this is through our offering, but often it comes from our service to one another. How do you think of serving others?
  • Learning intentionally (Deut 6:6-7) speaks to our desire to understand God’s word so we can grow fully mature in Christ. This is a bedrock value which can only be accomplished within the Body of Christ.
  • Leading courageously (Rom 1:16) is our passion to share the gospel, in all of its facets, to all who will listen. This may be traditional evangelism efforts or it may be services which purposely bring our ambassadors for the kingdom of God into largely non-Christian area of life.
  • Living sincerely (James 1:22) is the goal of Christian discipleship. What we say on Sunday morning should be affirmed in word and deed throughout the week. We should be living without hypocrisy in a world which is always seeking to challenge the truth of our convictions.
